Differences between Liverwort and Selaginella

Differences between Liverwort and Selaginella

1. Different leaves

The leaves of Marchantia are relatively flat, with multiple dichotomous branches, light green or dark green in color, about 1 cm wide and 10 cm long, with wavy edges, and most of them are intertwined into pieces. There is a hexagonal air chamber on the back, 6 rows of purple scales on the ventral side, and heart-shaped attachments at the tips of the scales.

The leaves of Selaginella are green or brownish yellow, scaly, with long awns at the tip, and the membranous edge on the back is usually brown-black. The ventral leaves are ovate-rectangular, arranged obliquely upward, with membranous leaf margins and fine serrations.

2. Different breeding methods

Liverwort reproduces by spores. The Selaginella propagates by seeds.

3. Different growth environments

Liverwort grows in dry environments. The Selaginella grows in a humid environment.
