The difference between Areca palm and Phoebe bamboo

1. Appearance Difference

Areca palm grows taller than bamboo, and its leaves are larger and longer than bamboo, so it is easy to distinguish the two when placed together. The stem of the former is thicker than that of the latter, and the stem of the former is solid while the stem of the latter is hollow.

2. Difference in flowering period

As long as the growing conditions of the Areca palm are met and it is carefully cared for, it can bloom every year, but the Phoenix Bamboo rarely blooms, and even if it does, it will only bloom once every few decades or even hundreds of years.

3. Differences in growth habits

Areca palm is a tropical plant that requires more water than bamboo. Generally, it needs to be watered every other day, while bamboo only needs to be watered twice a week. Because it is a tropical plant, Areca palm is heat-resistant but not cold-resistant. The growth temperature must be above 20 degrees Celsius, and health problems will occur if the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius. Phoenix bamboo is more cold-resistant than Areca palm. Generally speaking, as long as the temperature is not lower than zero degrees Celsius, it will not have any health problems. Therefore, Phoenix bamboo can spend the winter outdoors and does not require special care as long as it is not too cold. However, Areca palm must be moved to a warm place during the winter, otherwise it will get frostbite.
