The difference between camphor wood and Ligustrum lucidum

The difference between camphor wood and Ligustrum lucidum

1. Differences in tree trunks

When camphor wood matures, the tree becomes rather sturdy, with a maximum height of 30 meters and a trunk diameter of 5 meters. The tree is full of fragrance, the bark is slightly darker in color, yellow-brown, and has irregular longitudinal cracks.

Ligustrum lucidum is relatively short, ranging in height from 10 to 25 meters, and its bark is light gray-brown in color.

2. The difference of leaves

The leaves of camphor trees are oval in shape, 6 to 12 cm long, 3 to 6 cm wide, gray-green in color, and hard and easily turn red.

The leaves of Ligustrum lucidum are evergreen, oblong or elliptical in shape, larger than the former, 6 to 17 cm long and 3 to 8 cm wide. The petioles are shorter, 1 to 3 cm long, and have no small hairs.

3. The difference of flowers

The flowers of the camphor tree are light yellow-green in color, with densely distributed small hairs inside the flowers.

The flowers of Ligustrum lucidum are pale white in color and have almost no pedicels.
