How to grow red peony

How to grow red peony

Spring maintenance

A year's plan begins with spring, and spring is the peak growth period for the red peony. Therefore, there is much to do with the red peony in spring.

Spring is the best time to repot the red peony. Every spring when the temperature rises and is above 10℃, you can repot the peony. After repotting, place the peony in a semi-shaded location. Do not water it for now. Wait until new roots of the red peony grow out, then resume watering and place it in a sunny place. The red peony becomes redder the more it is exposed to the sun.

Spring is the peak growth season for red peony. Do not water it too much and avoid making the soil too wet. It is generally best to water it after the soil is completely dry. On rainy days, watering should be reduced to prevent rain.

Summer maintenance

In summer, the temperature is high and the sunlight is strong, which can burn the sphere and harm the red peony. At this time, the red peony should be placed in a place with morning and evening light, and be sure to provide appropriate shade.

When the temperature is hot in summer, growth stagnates, and water should be applied when the soil is dry or wet.

In summer, spray every day to increase air humidity and increase ventilation to reduce temperature. When the temperature cools in late summer, it should be moved to a place with sufficient light for cultivation.

Autumn maintenance

In autumn, the red peony should be placed in a place with sufficient light and no rain.

When watering the red peony, it is best to water it thoroughly when the soil is dry. As the temperature gradually drops, you can reduce the amount of watering to keep the soil in the pot dry until it goes dormant.

When the outdoor temperature drops to around 10℃, it should be moved into a bright, enclosed balcony or room for cultivation in time.

Winter maintenance

The characteristic of red peony is that it is not cold-resistant, so the wintering temperature should not be lower than 8℃.

The red peony needs to be kept warm and in the sun in winter, so the potted plants should be placed on a windowsill or balcony with sufficient light. Pay attention to water control to keep the soil in the pot dry. The lower the temperature, the drier the soil in the pot should be, so that the plant can hibernate well.
