The difference between Daphne daphne and Clove

The difference between Daphne daphne and Clove

1. Difference in appearance

Daphne is a deciduous shrub, 0.3-1 meter tall, with many branches. The bark is brown and the twigs are cylindrical. When dry, the surface is wrinkled. The young branches are purple-brown or yellow-green with light yellow soft hairs, while the old branches are purple-brown or purple-red and hairless.

Lilac is a small tree or shrub that can reach 5 meters in height, with gray or gray-brown bark and thicker twigs.

2. Difference of blades

The leaves of Daphne genkwa are opposite, rarely alternate, papery, ovate or ovate-lanceolate or later elliptic-oblong, about 3-4 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, with short acuminate or acute apex, obtuse or broad cuneate base, entire, green above, dark brown when dry, light green below, yellowish brown when dry.

Cloves are leathery or thick papery, oval to kidney-shaped, much wider than the former, about 2-14 cm long and 2-15 cm wide. The apex is acute or convex, and the base is cordate to nearly rounded or broadly cuneate. The color is similar to the former.
