How to Identify Southwestern Chlorophytum

How to Identify Southwestern Chlorophytum

1. Blades

The shape of the leaves of Chlorophytum comosum varies greatly, from an initially long or linear lanceolate shape to a nearly lanceolate shape, about 8-60 cm long and 0.6-2 cm wide, and the base sometimes narrows into a petiole shape.

2. Flowers

The scape of Southwestern Chlorophytum is usually longer than the leaves. The flowers are white, solitary or in clusters of 2-3. Generally, they are in racemes, with few side branches and arranged in panicles. The pedicels are about 1 cm, and the joints are usually in the upper or near the middle. The tepals are about 10-13 mm. The stamens are slightly shorter than the tepals, and the anthers are twice as long as the filaments.

3. Fruit

The fruit of the southwestern spider plant is a capsule, which is triangular, usually obovate, and rarely nearly spherical. It is about 6-9 mm long, with 6-9 seeds in each locule. The flowering and fruiting period is from July to September.
