The difference between yellow eggplant and thorny eggplant

1. Difference of blades

The leaves of Solanum ericaceum are single and alternate. The leaves are ovate-oblong, about 4-6 cm long and 3-4.5 cm wide, with obtuse or pointed tips, nearly heart-shaped or oblique bases, and deeply fissured edges.

The leaves of Solanum spicata are ovate, about 5-7 cm long and 2.5-5.2 cm wide, with obtuse apex, heart-shaped or truncated base, shallowly fissured edges, green with short soft hairs on the upper side, and gray-green with long hairs on the lower side.

2. The difference between flowers

The yellow-fruited eggplant has a cyme inflorescence that grows outside the axil, usually with 3-5 flowers. The calyx is bell-shaped with small thorns on the outside, the corolla is radial, blue-purple in color, the petals are ovate-triangular, the ovary is ovate-round, and the style is relatively slender.

The Solanum thornyum has a scorpion tail inflorescence, the color of the flowers is also blue-purple, a few are white, the calyx is cup-shaped, the lobes are ovate, and the ovary is oblong with edges.

3. Fruit Difference

The yellow-fruited eggplant is spherical in shape. The fruit is green with dark green stripes at the beginning, and turns light yellow when ripe. The nightshade is orange-red when ripe.
