The difference between red nanmu and false red nanmu

1. Difference of blades

The leaves of red nanmu are broadly elliptic to elliptic, about 1.5-3 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, leathery, and opposite. The apex is obtuse or rounded, occasionally with a point, the base is broadly cuneate or obtuse, the upper side is dark brown after drying and dull, the lower side is slightly lighter in color and has glandular dots.

The leaves of Pseudo-redwood nanmu are slightly larger, oval in shape, about 3-4 cm long and 1.5-2 cm wide, with a gradually pointed tip and a broad wedge-shaped base. The upper side turns olive when dry, with numerous small glandular dots, while the lower side has the same color and raised glandular dots.

2. The difference between flowers

The inflorescence of red nanmu grows in cymes at the top. The false red nanmu has a cyme inflorescence, which grows axillary.
