How to grow Christmas cactus

How to grow Christmas cactus

1. Breeding methods:

1. Soil

It is best to use breathable and loose soil when growing Christmas cactus. The prepared soil can be exposed to the sun to achieve the effect of sterilization.

2. Watering

The watering time of Christmas cactus should change according to the change of seasons. In winter, it is generally sufficient to water it once every 4-5 days. However, due to the higher temperature in summer, the soil is more likely to become dry, so the watering time should be shortened to once every 1-2 days.

3. Fertilization

Do not water before fertilizing Christmas cactus. The effect of fertilizing is best when the soil is dry. The time for fertilizing is generally concentrated between September to October and April to June.

4. Lighting

Christmas cactus is a short-day plant. Short light exposure time can greatly promote its growth, while long light exposure time will hinder its growth.

5. Temperature

The most suitable temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. When the temperature is high in summer, the temperature should be lowered appropriately, while in winter the indoor temperature should be maintained at 15℃ as much as possible, and the lowest should not be lower than 5℃.

2. Prevention and control of diseases and insect pests:

If the air is dry and ventilation is poor, Christmas cactus will easily breed red spider mites and scale insects. Therefore, when raising it, you should pay attention to providing it with good ventilation conditions and spray water in time to increase the air humidity. When pests are discovered, they should be dealt with promptly.
