Plant TypeDeutzia odorata is a deciduous shrub, 1-2 meters high, rarely up to 3 meters; the twigs are green, cylindrical, glabrous, often arching, and the young branches are angular. The Deutzia flower has no main trunk, and its green branches grow in clusters from the ground. Pruning methodsDeutzia likes plenty of sunlight and a warm environment. It is also relatively shade-tolerant and not very cold-tolerant, but it is relatively tolerant to moisture. To make Deutzia bloom and prosper every year, it must be pruned reasonably every year. Pruning is done in January and February, and dead branches, overcrowded branches, old branches that are hard and white at the base, and other branches are cut off from the base. Plant renewal is done every 5 to 10 years. After flowering, leave 10 to 15 cm from the ground and cut off the rest. After the Deutzia has bloomed, leave branches about 50 cm high and cut off the upper branches. This will encourage the sprouting of new buds in the lower part. In the spring of the second year, around February to March, choose consecutive sunny days and prune the Deutzia for several days. This will make the branches bloom more vigorously that year and increase the number of flowers. If you want the Deutzia to have more branches, you can keep only 7 cm and cut off the rest. PrecautionsDuring the pruning process, if you find that the branches are gradually dying from top to bottom, you must cut off the dead branches immediately, otherwise the dry state will spread to the roots and cause the death of the entire plant. After the leaves fall, there is a possibility that dead branches will appear on the Deutzia plant. Therefore, it is necessary to observe and deal with it in time. Because most of the Deutzia flowers bloom on the new branches, they should only be pruned thinly and not cut short. If they are pruned short, the flower buds on the branches will be cut off, which will directly affect the flowering in the following spring. Cutting off dense old branches, weak branches, and diseased and insect-infested branches after winter or before early spring budding can not only keep the plant shape symmetrical and beautiful, but also ensure luxuriant flowering. |
