Can banyan tree branches be grafted to survive?

1. Can it be inserted alive?

Banyan tree branches can be transplanted and the survival rate is very high, reaching 95%. Branch cuttings are also the main way of propagating banyan trees. The method is relatively simple and does not require a demanding environment.

2. Cutting method

1. Cutting time: The best time for cutting is generally in early May. However, the banyan tree itself has strong vitality, so the time is as long as spring, summer and autumn. After the slow growth in winter, cuttings are unlikely to survive.

2. Branch selection: Choose one-year-old strong branches for cuttings. The length is between 5 and 15 cm, with more than 3 bud nodes and more than one pair of leaves.

3. Cuttings processing: First of all, the bottom leaves of the cuttings should be removed, so that the leaves in the soil will rot and affect their growth. After that, you can insert the branches into the plain sandy soil. Make sure to place them in a cool place, spray water 1-2 times a day, and maintain a certain air humidity. If there is no particularly clean sandy soil, you can soak it in water first, and then plant it in a pot after white organic matter grows at the bottom.

4. Potting and maintenance: The plant can be potted after new seedlings grow from the branches. The potting soil should be loose and breathable, and river sand or coal slag can be used as the culture soil. If you have the ability, you can also find leaf mold and prepare the culture soil according to the ratio of garden soil, leaf mold and sand in the ratio of 2:2:1. At the same time, add a little moss on the top of the soil, which not only serves as decoration but also helps drainage and ventilation.
