How to raise the Purple Barbarian Knife

How to raise the Purple Barbarian Knife

1. Lighting

Adequate sunlight, a warm and ventilated environment are the best conditions for its growth. Adequate light will promote the leaves to grow closer. Insufficient light will cause the distance between the leaves of the plant to become looser, less full, and its color will become lighter and lighter. Full sun exposure is possible with shade and ventilation.

2. Temperature

Its characteristic of liking coolness and being afraid of heat will cause it to enter a dormant state and stop growing when the temperature is higher than 35 degrees in summer, so it should be placed in a cool place at this time.

3. Watering

Compared with other succulents, the most worry-free thing about Purple Sword is that it does not require frequent watering. Because it is basically dormant throughout the summer, you only need to water it about two to four times a month at this time.

Each time you only need to water the edge of the flowerpot. The watering time should be between 7 and 9 pm, because the sun has set by then and watering will not cause damage to the roots. Uneven watering can also cause rot, so water thoroughly each time, and wait until the soil is completely dry before watering a second time. Be sure to avoid long-term rain to prevent damage to its roots.

Matrix

It does not have too many requirements for the substrate, and does not require the substrate to be very fertile. Therefore, the substrate is generally a mixture of coarse sand and peat soil, which can maintain water permeability. You can also mix coal slag with peat and add a small amount of perlite and mix them in a certain proportion. If you want the substrate to be loose and not prone to water accumulation, you can spread a layer of river sand on its surface.

5. Repotting

In order to allow it to develop better, it needs to be transplanted every once in a while. As the plant continues to grow, the original pot is no longer suitable for the growth of its roots. So you need to change the pot every one to two years. The best time to repot is before the first watering in early spring, which happens to be its growing season.
