How to grow peony

How to grow peony

1. Suitable soil

It actually has a very strong ability to adapt to the environment, so if you want to grow it outdoors, it doesn't have many requirements for the soil, ordinary garden soil is enough. But if you want to grow it indoors, then you have to choose some soil that is loose and breathable. Generally, we find some leaf mold, fine river sand, garden soil, etc. and mix them together in proportion, so that it can grow better.

2. Light and temperature control

It likes places with lots of sunlight, so when you raise it, it is best to choose places with lots of sunlight. If there is not enough light, it will easily grow too tall and the number of flowers it blooms will be very small. Generally, the light exposure time should not be less than 4 hours a day. Even in summer, there is no need to shade it because it is very resistant to high temperatures and can withstand temperatures of 38 degrees. There is no need to do any anti-cold work in winter because it is also very cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.

3. Supply of water and fertilizer

Speaking of water and fertilizer, that is its favorite. Usually, we can water it frequently and keep the soil moist at all times, but we must not allow water to accumulate in the pot, otherwise, its roots will easily rot. In addition, the soil cannot be too dry, as this will affect its later flowering. As for fertilizer, it actually doesn't have many requirements. Generally, just applying a little compound fertilizer can make it grow well. However, one thing you must remember when applying fertilizer is that you must stop immediately when winter comes, because winter is its dormant period and the demand for fertilizer is very low.

4. Proper shaping and pruning

It is very easy to branch during its growth process, so we must do appropriate pruning at this time, cut off those extra branches in time, and also properly pinch its flower buds to make it bloom more flowers.
