How to grow Hyssopus officinalis

How to grow Hyssopus officinalis

1. Rizhao

This plant has high requirements for light, so it is usually grown outdoors. In summer, too much sunlight will cause the plants to evaporate vigorously and lose water quickly. Coupled with the high temperature, the plants will die. At this time, the plants should be moved to a cool place for cultivation to prevent them from being injured.

2. Soil

This plant is not demanding on soil, it just needs to be well-drained. Generally speaking, the soil should not dry out or crack. If it does, it must be watered in time and thoroughly. Since this plant is afraid of moisture, once water accumulates in the soil it is likely to harm the plant, so be sure to pay attention. The soil needs certain nutrients. You can use leaf mold or garden soil for planting, and maintain the Ph level to be acidic, which is more conducive to its growth.

3. Temperature

This herb does not like hot environments. Generally speaking, the temperature should be maintained at 18-25 degrees when the plant is germinating, and 15-28 degrees during normal growth. The cold weather in winter will cause the above-ground part of the plant to die. At this time, you only need to keep the underground part properly warm. Then, in the spring of the following year, the underground part will germinate. This cycle can be repeated for five years.

4. Water and Fertilizer

This plant does not like moisture, so you must control the amount of watering. Generally, when the soil in the pot shows signs of dryness, add water in time and water it thoroughly at one time. It is too humid in the summer, so the plants need to be moved to a cool and dry place for continued cultivation, otherwise they will find it difficult to survive the summer. This plant grows very fast, so it needs timely fertilizer replenishment. Generally speaking, it should be used once every half a month, and each fertilizer needs to be nutritionally complete and balanced. When dormant in winter, the water can be reduced appropriately, and the fertilizer can be stopped, and then resumed when it sprouts.

5. Pests and diseases

Generally, plants with fragrance have certain insect repellent effects, so this plant is no exception. Generally speaking, pesticides are not needed to prevent pests and diseases. The more quantities and varieties planted, the more obvious the insect-proof effect will be. Normally, you only need to remove the weeds in the field.
