How to identify Taitung Custard Apple

1. Leaves

The leaves of Taitung Sugar Apple are simple and alternate, without stipules. The front of the leaves are dark green and the back is gray-green. The leaves are thin and papery, and are elliptical-lanceolate or oblong.

2. Flowers

The flowers of Taitung Sugar Apple grow singly or in clusters of 2 to 4 at the top of the branches. They are green-yellow in color and bloom from April to September each year. They have three petals, which are oval-oblong in shape, and the flower body hangs down.

3. Fruit

The fruit of Taitung sugar apple is a multiple fruit. The surface of its peel is round, heart-shaped, oval or conical. The fruit is light green or yellow-green when ripe, and dark green when unripe. Its shape is very similar to lychee, so its original name is sweet apple. The seeds of sugar apple are dark brown and oval in shape, with a smooth and hard surface. The flesh is snow-white, with a dense taste, sweetness and a slight sourness.
