Cultivation method of Mediterranean blue bell flower

Cultivation method of Mediterranean blue bell flower

1. Reproduction method

Generally, propagation is done by dividing bulbs or sowing seeds, and dividing bulbs is more suitable in autumn. Its bulb is similar to that of hyacinth. Its roots and buds begin to grow in the soil in autumn. When it is particularly cold, they will be temporarily terminated. When the climate warms up in spring or the ground just thaws, it continues to grow rapidly and reaches the time to bloom. When summer comes, the temperature begins to rise, the growth will gradually slow down and it will enter a dormant period. Dormant bulbs can be left in the field or in pots, or you can dig up the bulbs and store them in the room to hibernate. In the fall, divide the bulbs and start sowing. Of course, sowing is also in autumn, and it takes 3 to 4 years of cultivation before it can bloom.

2. Basic maintenance

It generally prefers cool places and is particularly resistant to severe cold, so it can grow well whether in sunny or semi-shaded places. It also likes moisture very well and is very drought-resistant, so watering is not particularly strict. In addition, it has certain requirements for soil quality, so when choosing soil, it is best to choose some loose and fertile sandy soil. This will help with drainage and improve air permeability.

3. Tips

If you want to use it as a potted plant, be sure to use a full and thick bulb. Generally, a flower pot with a diameter of about 20 cm is enough, and 2 to 3 bulbs can be planted in each pot. When potting, the depth cannot be the same as when planting in the ground, just make sure the top of the ball is level with the soil surface. If you plant it too deep, the roots won't be able to reach out. It is also best to put some basal fertilizer in the basin. After planting in autumn, the pot should be buried in the soil so that it can take root more easily and is very easy to manage.
