The difference between moon rabbit ears and bear paws

The difference between moon rabbit ears and bear paws

1. Difference in appearance

There are raw brown spots on the tips of the leaves of the Moon Rabbit Ear Plant. The brown spots on the leaves are particularly obvious when there is plenty of sunlight. The leaves are long and spindle-shaped with a rounded tip. There is grayish-white hair on the leaves, which look like rabbit ears, so they are called "Moon Rabbit Ears". The bear's paw plant has many branches, the rhizome is green, and the green leaves are covered with fine white hairs. The shape of the leaves resembles a bear's paw. The leaves have short claw-like teeth at the tips.

2. The difference between flowers

The moon rabbit ear flower is orange, has 4 petals, and has a relatively long flowering period. It usually blooms in early summer, the inflorescence is relatively tall, and the flower branches extend upward like tubes. The innermost or central flower opens first, and then slowly opens to the sides, which is called a cyme.

The flowering period of Bear's Paw is generally from late summer to early autumn. The flowers are relatively small. Small orange-red flowers will bloom at the top of each mother plant. The flowers are about 4 mm wide and about 12-16 mm long. The petals are about 10 mm long and slightly curled outwards. The calyx is green, about 6 mm long and 5 mm wide, and the flowers are very small and exquisite.

3. Difference in plant height

The overall height of the bear's paw is about 30 cm and the width is about 11-12 cm. Its leaves are thick and fleshy, and are arranged in pairs. The leaves are about 2.3-6.5 cm long and 1.5-3.2 cm wide.

Since moon rabbit ears grow too high and too fast, there is no specific standard for their height.

4. The difference in main values

The main value of the two plants, Moon Rabbit Ears and Bear Paw, is not much different, and both are handicrafts. It can be used as a small potted plant indoors. It has beautiful leaf shape and certain ornamental value. It can be placed on a desk, windowsill or coffee table. Another function of the moon rabbit ears is that they can be placed next to TVs and computers to help absorb radiation. They can also be used indoors to absorb formaldehyde and other substances that are harmful to the body and help purify the indoor air.

5. Differences in soil

The best soil for moon rabbit ears is fertile, loose and well-breathable sandy loam. Bear's paw does not have high requirements for soil, and ordinary garden soil will do. You can add some chicken manure to the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer.
