How to propagate Japanese cypress cuttings

1. Prepare the substrate

Before cutting, it is necessary to prepare a suitable substrate for juniper. Leaf mold, perlite and vermiculite are suitable as the substrate for juniper. The three materials can be mixed evenly in equal proportions as the culture soil, and they must be disinfected before use.

2. Select cuttings

On the juniper plant, select one-year-old tender branches in good growth condition, cut about 10-15 cm with a sterilized knife, cut off the leaves in the middle and bottom, keep 2-3 leaves on the top, cut the bottom of the branch into a bevel, and place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a suitable flowerpot, put some expanded clay at the bottom of the pot, fill it with culture soil, smooth the soil, insert the juniper cuttings into the soil, the depth is about 1/2 or 1/3, not too deep, water it enough, and place it in the shade for maintenance.

Maintenance of Juniper Cuttings

After the juniper is grafted, water needs to be controlled and the soil temperature needs to be stabilized between 18 and 25 degrees. The cuttings can take root after 2 to 3 months. After the cuttings take root, they need to be given sufficient light, water and fertilizer to promote the growth of young shoots. After the juniper grows stably in the later stage of emergence, it can be transplanted into a pot of suitable size.
