Rubber tree cultivation methods and precautions

Rubber tree cultivation methods and precautions

1. Flower Pot

Requirements for flower pot quality: Clay pots, plastic pots, porcelain pots, and ceramic pots can be used for cultivation.

Pot size: Rubber trees can be planted in pots with a diameter of 20-30 cm.

2. Potting soil

Rubber trees prefer fertile, loose sandy soil. The culture soil can be a mixture of 1/3 leaf mold, garden soil, and river sand, and a small amount of cake fertilizer can be applied as base fertilizer. It is advisable to change the pot every other year during the young plant stage.

3. Watering

Rubber trees like water and humidity, but avoid waterlogging and are not drought-tolerant. In spring and autumn, keep the soil in the pot moist, and sprinkle water on the leaves and around them frequently to increase the air humidity.

Water evaporates quickly in summer, and rubber trees require a large amount of water. They need to be watered every day, and the number of waterings should be increased. When the temperature is low in winter, it is better to keep the soil slightly moist. If the temperature is around 10℃, water more appropriately to prevent the soil from drying out and causing leaves to fall.

4. Fertilization

Rubber trees like fertilizer but avoid nitrogen fertilizer. When there is too much nitrogen fertilizer, the stem nodes will grow too long, the distance between leaves will become larger, and the plant shape will not be beautiful. Therefore, during the growing season of young plants, apply compound fertilizer once every 20 days and add a small amount of potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution. To control the height of mature plants, apply mixed fertilizer once every two months.

5. Light and temperature

The rubber tree needs sufficient light to grow, but it is also relatively shade-tolerant. Therefore, just place the rubber tree in a south-facing window with plenty of sunlight and pay attention to ventilation.

Rubber trees are not cold-resistant. When the temperature is below 10℃, they should be moved indoors for maintenance and the soil in the pot should be kept moist. For home cultivation, the plants are usually moved outdoors for maintenance from late April to early October, and appropriate shade is provided during the hot summer.

6. Notes

The suitable temperature for rubber tree growth is 25-30℃. If the temperature is lower than 3℃ in winter, the leaves will turn yellow and fall off. Therefore, it should be placed in a sunny place indoors in winter and the room temperature should be kept above 10℃. When the temperature exceeds 35℃ in summer, the plants should be moved to a cool and ventilated place for maintenance, and water should be sprayed to cool them down in time.

The rubber tree is a plant of the Moraceae family, and the whole plant contains latex. Therefore, apply charcoal powder immediately after each pruning to prevent excessive juice from leaking out and causing dehydration and death.

During the rubber tree seedling stage, the direction of the pot needs to be changed regularly to prevent the plant from growing to one side, resulting in a small and straight plant shape and affecting its appearance.
