How to propagate Jade Plant by cuttings?

Jade plant belongs to the genus Portulacaceae , Portulacaceae, and is the same family as the common sunflower. Although it is easy to propagate by cuttings in theory, in actual operation, some flower lovers may encounter difficulties and fail to see the cuttings take root quickly as they wish. Let’s learn in detail how to propagate Jade Plant by cuttings.

1. Cutting time

Cuttings are not restricted by seasons, but spring and autumn are more suitable because the climate is moderate and conducive to rapid plant growth. The temperature needs to be lowered in summer, and the plants should be moved indoors to keep warm in winter to ensure the survival rate.

2. Cuttings

Choose healthy branches with leaves, about 8-12 cm in length, and remove the bottom leaves after cutting to prevent rot. You can choose to apply carbendazim to prevent root rot. If carbendazim is not available, this step can be omitted. Place the cuttings in a cool place to dry, and then plant them again after the wound has healed.

3. Cutting operation

Insert the cuttings into the soil at a depth of one-third of the length of the cuttings, avoiding inserting them too deep to affect the plant's breathing and rooting speed. Avoid direct light, use diffuse light, and maintain a temperature range of 15-20 degrees. Water thoroughly at one time and continue for about a week, keeping the soil moist until roots take root.

4. Maintenance after cultivation

Use a mixture of leaf mold and garden soil, the proportion of leaf mold should be greater than garden soil to increase soil nutrition. Disinfect the soil before planting to prevent bacteria and insect eggs from damaging plant roots. Place tiles at the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage, and pay attention to the amount of watering to prevent it from being too wet or too dry.

5. Notes

Make sure the cuttings' wounds have healed before transplanting to increase the survival rate. Avoid using buds that are too tender for cuttings, and choose branches that are moderately mature. Pay attention to details during the cutting process to ensure that every step is done well.

Although Jade Plant cuttings can be carried out all year round, the climatic conditions in spring and autumn are most suitable, and the survival rate of cuttings is the highest at this time. In addition, the timing and techniques of cuttings introduced above also need to be mastered.
