How to grow fern

Loosening the soil and weeding the pod fern

After a long period of planting, the soil in the flowerpot will generally become compacted, the air permeability will deteriorate, weeds will grow rampantly, and the nutrients in the flowerpot will be exhausted. Therefore, it is necessary to loosen the soil and weed the pod fern regularly. It is best to cover the potting soil with a layer of straw or sawdust after weeding. This can both keep the soil moist and prevent the rampant growth of weeds. In addition, in order to avoid other weeds being mixed in with the pod fern, you can remove the obvious grass seeds in the culture soil and sterilize the culture soil during planting.

Fertilize the fern regularly

The pod fern has strong vitality and adaptability, but this does not mean that it does not need to be fertilized. On the contrary, it needs to be fertilized with a thin layer of fertilizer every half a month. Too much fertilizer can easily cause fertilizer damage to the pod fern, causing it to wither or even die. If too little fertilizer is applied, the fertilization cycle must be shortened, and nitrogen fertilizer should be the main fertilizer. During the winter when growth is not active, fertilizer can be applied once every one to two months.

Watering the pod fern appropriately

The pod fern likes shade and moisture and is not resistant to high temperatures. Therefore, in the summer, it should be placed in a cool place for cultivation, try to avoid direct sunlight, and water it two to three times a day. Please note that watering should be done in the morning as much as possible, and avoid watering at noon. The temperature at noon is too high, and the stomata of the pod fern are in an open state. Watering will damage the stomata of the pod fern and affect its normal growth. In winter, you can reduce the amount of watering appropriately, but the main principle is still to keep the soil moist.
