How to propagate Money Tree by cuttings?

The leaves of the money string plant are round and arranged in strings, shaped like ancient copper coins, symbolizing wealth and fortune. : Under proper maintenance conditions, the leaves can present a beautiful wine red color, which is of great ornamental value. Compared to purchasing, cuttings are an easier and more economical way to get new moneywort plants. Let’s learn together how to propagate Moneywort by cuttings.

1. Choose strong branches

Choose moneywort branches that are free of pests and diseases and have strong leaves and branches. The cut branches need to be dried in the sun for 2 to 3 days to allow the wounds to heal and reduce the risk of rot. Use general nutrient soil, river sand and a small amount of organic fertilizer to make cutting soil, and pot it with moist soil.

2. Cutting season

Spring or fall is the best time to take cuttings, avoiding extreme temperatures in winter and summer.

3. Watering time

It is not advisable to water the cuttings immediately after cuttings. They should be placed in a low-light environment for about 5 days before watering.

4. Lighting management

Newly grafted money tree cannot withstand strong light and should be placed in a diffuse light or low light environment. After rooting and sprouting, the light can be gradually increased until it adapts to the strong light environment.

5. Use rooting agent

Using a small amount of rooting agent and carbendazim can both prevent rot and accelerate rooting.

In general, it is easy to propagate money tree by cuttings. Be careful to avoid strong light and premature watering, and choose healthy branches. Use rooting agents and carbendazim in combination to improve the survival rate of cuttings. Through cuttings, you can easily turn one pot of money tree into multiple pots.
