The difference between succulents and multi-headed plants

the difference

Affiliation: refers to the common deformity and variation phenomenon in flowers, which is a kind of variation phenomenon in plant morphology.

Affiliation variation: refers to the phenomenon that certain varieties of succulent plants are subject to unexplained external stimuli (watering, sunlight, temperature, drugs, climate change, etc.), and the growth cones at the top divide and double abnormally, forming many small growth points. These growth points develop horizontally into a line and eventually grow into flat fan-shaped or cockscomb-shaped ribbons. The variegated mutant plants have higher ornamental value due to their strange shapes, and are more precious than the original species (planting) because of their rarity.

Currently, growing succulent plants in a clustered pattern is particularly popular in South Korea, and collecting these exotic plants has become one of their hobbies.

Comparison between suffixation and multi-head

By comparison we can see that the difference between fascicle and multi-headed lies in the difference in stems. The variegated stem looks like a cockscomb or a fan. The difference between multiple heads is just the number of stems, and there are as many stems as there are heads.

If you cut the meat open and look at the top view (from the top looking down), you can see that the cut surfaces are connected together. In fact, the method to distinguish between succulent plants and multi-headed succulents is very simple: multi-headed succulents have separate stems, one stem and one head. If there are only round stems under the leaves, and no cockscomb-like or fan-shaped stems, then it is just a multi-headed plant.

Can the stems of succulent plants and multi-headed succulent plants coexist? See the figure below:

In the picture, 1 is the variegated stem and 2 is the ordinary round stem. It can be seen that the two can coexist.

A succulent-loving friend asked, are the leaves broken off from the variegated succulents necessarily also variegated? Not necessarily, because fascination is a variation of succulents caused by external conditions, not the genes of the succulent itself, so it is not feasible to propagate succulents by breaking off leaves.

Appreciating the meat and consolidating knowledge points:

The fan-shaped stems will also split, and their properties are the same as those of succulents. The point variation of growth causes the stems to grow together, resulting in the stems becoming fan-shaped or cockscomb-shaped, while the property of easily growing side buds remains unchanged, which results in fascicularization.
