How to grow Lilium odoratum

How to grow Lilium odoratum

Maintenance conditions

temperature

The suitable soil temperature for the growth period of Lilium odoratum is approximately between 18-24℃. It should be noted that when the temperature is higher than 20℃, the rooting quality of the royal lantern lily will decrease, so it is necessary to keep the soil temperature cool and do a good job of cooling down, especially in summer. On the other hand, if the temperature remains high during the day, it will reduce the height of the plant, reduce the number of flower buds and cause the adverse effect of flower blindness. The night temperature should not be lower than 15℃, otherwise it will cause buds to fall and leaves to turn yellow, thereby reducing the ornamental value.

Lighting requirements

Insufficient light will affect the formation of flower buds of Lilium odoratum, but too strong light will also affect the quality of cut flowers. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain a reasonable amount of light.

During the growth period of the royal lantern lily, appropriate shading and supplementary lighting measures need to be carried out according to the specific situation to promote the healthy growth of the plant. Generally, shading is needed in the early stages of growth, which can increase the height of the plant to a certain extent. Especially in summer, shading work is essential.

You can cover the greenhouse with a shade net to block out excessive light to prevent the high temperature in the greenhouse from damaging the plants.

Ventilation work

The temperature at noon is higher in spring, summer and autumn. You can open the greenhouse film and roof windows in the morning for ventilation, adjust the humidity in a slightly lower temperature environment, and avoid drastic changes in humidity during high temperature stages. Certain insulation measures should be taken in winter, and ventilation should be carried out when the temperature is higher at noon, and intermittent ventilation should be carried out.

Watering

Lily of the valley is easily affected by high salt content, which can lead to water shortage. It is best to water it for 20-30 minutes every day starting from the 17th week after planting. Water from the top for the first 8 weeks after planting, change the tee strip for the next 9 weeks, and stop watering after 17 weeks of planting. When watering, pay attention to controlling the amount of water to prevent water accumulation.

Soil and Fertilization

Choose a fertile, loose, well-drained soil matrix. You can regularly disinfect the matrix with fungicides to help prevent diseases and pests.

When preparing the land, you can spread fully decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer and mix it evenly on the soil surface. Generally, 30 cm thick is enough. If the plant does not grow strong enough during the growth period, it is most likely due to insufficient nitrogen fertilizer. In this case, you can apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer. Soil topdressing is generally done 2-3 times, and foliar topdressing can be done once a week. Remember to clean the plants after applying fertilizer to prevent burning of the leaves.

Reproduction method

Generally, two methods are adopted: seed propagation and bulb propagation.
