How to grow Epiphyllum

How to grow Epiphyllum

Farming methods

Light and temperature

Epiphyllum likes semi-shaded and warm environment and has relatively high temperature requirements. Epiphyllum needs sunlight to grow, and the suitable temperature for growth is between 15-25℃.

When the temperature is too high in summer, place the Epiphyllum in a shaded place without direct sunlight. When the temperature is low in winter, you need to move the Epiphyllum indoors to overwinter and place it in a sunny place indoors with sufficient light. The wintering temperature is between 10-12℃, and it can withstand low temperatures of around 5℃.

Water and fertilizer management

Epiphyllum needs more water in summer, but there should be no stagnant water and it should not be exposed to rain, as this will cause the roots to rot. You can spray water 1-2 times in the morning and evening to increase the air humidity. Reduce watering in spring and autumn, and control the moisture in winter to keep the soil in the pot from being too dry.

Epiphyllum can only bloom normally if there are enough nutrients.

During the growing season, Epiphyllum can be fertilized with decomposed cake fertilizer once every half month. Apply nitrogen fertilizer once a month in spring and autumn, with appropriate concentrations. Stop fertilizing in winter. During the flowering period, bone meal or superphosphate can be applied once to Epiphyllum.

Proper water and fertilizer management can extend the flowering period. Too much water and fertilizer will cause excessive growth.

soil

Epiphyllum often uses well-drained and fertile leaf mold. The soil must be rich in humus, have good drainage, and be loose and fertile. Sandy soil can be used.

Reproduction method

The common method of propagation of Epiphyllum is cuttings, which can be done by branch cuttings or leaf cuttings, and they take root quickly.

Epiphyllum can also be sown, but it takes a long time for it to bloom.

Precautions

Epiphyllum requires good water and fertilizer management, strict water control, and reasonable fertilization. Insufficient water and fertilizer will make it difficult to bloom.

Epiphyllum should not be exposed to strong sunlight and should be shaded when necessary. Avoid water accumulation in the pot and avoid rain in summer as this may cause root rot.

Since the modified stems of potted Epiphyllum are weak, they should be tied up or supported by a support in time.
