What are the ways to propagate daffodils, and which one is more commonly used?

1. Reproduction method

1. Side ball propagation: Small balls will grow on both sides of the daffodil bulb, which are side balls. Generally, it may detach from the sphere on its own in autumn. After separating the side balls, you can prepare the potting soil, then transplant the side balls into the pot and do a good job of maintenance and management in the later stage.

2. Double scale reproduction: This reproduction method does not have much time limit, and it is best to carry out it from April to September. This propagation method is more complicated. You need to keep the bulb in an environment of 4-10 degrees Celsius for about 4-8 hours and cut off the upper end of the lower scale. Add vermiculite and water to a plastic bag, then put the scales in it, seal it and place it in a dark place. Keep the temperature at around 20-28 degrees Celsius, and wait for 2-3 months for small bulbs to grow.

3. Lateral bud propagation: Pick out small white buds from the detached broken scales, prepare the seedbed, and sow and plant in autumn.

4. Tissue culture: This method is not suitable for home propagation and requires the use of culture medium to cultivate small bulbs.

2. Which method is more commonly used?

The most commonly used method at home is the side ball propagation method, which has a relatively high survival rate. If operated properly, the survival rate can reach 100%. Although the survival rate of lateral bud propagation is also very high, it is rarely used.
