Silver Queen breeding methods and precautions

Silver Queen breeding methods and precautions

Best growing soil

Silver Queen is mostly potted, so if you want to grow it well, you have to choose good soil. Loose peat soil or peat soil is usually best for potted plants, or a mixture of leaf mold and sandy loam, and the soil should be acidified by diluting it with a small amount of ferrous sulfate.

Water and fertilizer control requirements

Spring and autumn are the peak growth seasons for Silver Queen. Watering is necessary and the potting soil should always be kept moist. The water temperature should not be too low, just the same as room temperature. Spray the branches and leaves frequently with clean water to prevent the leaf tips from drying out, but try to avoid water accumulation.

During the growth period, apply thin liquid fertilizer once every half a month, and combine watering with fertilization to ensure that the fertilizer concentration is appropriate. Silver Queen grows slowly in winter, so water it less and stop fertilizing.

Optimum growth temperature

Silver Queen grows fastest at 20-24℃, stops growing above 30℃, and its leaves tend to turn yellow and dry up. Therefore, when maintaining the plant in summer, pay attention to preventing heatstroke and cooling down, ventilate and cool down frequently, or sprinkle water on the ground. Do not place the Silver Queen near a window in winter to avoid low temperatures that may affect its growth. In winter, the temperature should be controlled between 10℃ and not lower than 5℃.

Optimal growth light

When growing outdoors in the summer, pay attention to providing shade and avoid excessive light, otherwise sunburn will easily occur. Pay attention to lighting when overwintering in the greenhouse in winter to prevent the leaves from fading due to insufficient light.

Maintenance precautions

Do not allow water to accumulate in the Silver Queen pot (watering too frequently), as this can easily cause root rot. It is best to wait until the soil in the pot becomes dry before watering. If the soil in the pot is deep, the frequency of watering should be reduced. In summer, you can water or spray more to ensure humidity. There is a saying that goes "Life depends on water", which shows the importance of watering.

It cannot withstand exposure to the sun. Silver Queen is mainly for viewing its leaves. If it is exposed to the scorching sun for a long time, especially at noon in summer, the leaves may be burned, affecting its ornamental value and making its maintenance meaningless.
