How to propagate four-season primrose

Propagation of four-season primrose by sowing

Primrose is usually propagated by sowing.

How to sow seeds

It is best to sow the seeds of four-season primrose immediately after harvesting, because the lifespan of four-season primrose seeds is not very long, generally not exceeding 6 months. Or store in dry and low temperature conditions. Use a seeding box or shallow pot to sow the seeds. Because the seeds of four-season primrose are small, there is no need to cover the soil after sowing.

Seeds need light to germinate and like moisture. Therefore, it is necessary to cover it with glass and paper and place it in semi-shade. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 15-20℃. The seeds will germinate about 7-16 days after sowing. When the temperature is higher than 25℃, the germination rate will drop significantly. Therefore, you should avoid sowing in midsummer, or adopt the method of indoor sowing.

Seed sowing time

The sowing time depends on the flowering period you want. If you want it to bloom in winter, you can sow in late spring. Sowing in early autumn will allow for early spring flowering.

Propagation of four-season primrose by division

Four-season primrose can also be propagated by division. The first transplant is carried out when the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, and they are transplanted or potted when they have 5-6 leaves. When planting, be careful not to plant too deep, the depth should be appropriate. It is best to bury the root neck in the soil. Adjust the flowering period: After the temperature drops in winter, the base can sprout again and the pot can be changed at this time.

After wintering at room temperature of 10-12℃, it will bloom again in the next spring. The seedlings are divided and transplanted, then transplanted again and finally planted in larger pots. When planting, do not bury the root neck in the soil.

Pot soil

The potting soil is usually a mixture of equal amounts of leaf mold, garden soil, and rice husk ash, and then an appropriate amount of fertilizer is added.

Shelter

For early-sown seedlings planted in late June, pay attention to shade in summer. No shade in winter, but a small amount of shade in spring and autumn.

Fertilization

During the growth period, apply fertilizer once every half a month. The room temperature needs to be kept at around 12 degrees Celsius in winter, and the peak flowering period will be reached around the Spring Festival. The icing on the cake for the festival.
