What does the lotus represent?

What does the lotus represent?

1. Symbolism

The phrase "藕断丝连" comes from the ancient people's lament about love, lamenting that young men and women are inseparable in love, and that you are in me and I am in you. The lotus is given the meaning of representing love. Its flowers are pink and white, just like a girl's blushing cheeks. In the Book of Songs long ago, the lotus was compared to a shy girl.

2. Symbolic Meaning

1. Nobility: The lotus has straight branches, and its faint fragrance and high-standing flowers represent its pride. It grows out of a pond full of mud, but its branches, leaves and flowers are free of a trace of dirt, which represents qualities like nobility, meaning that we cannot choose where we are born, but we can decide our destiny and our future!

2. Integrity: The officialdom is a mess with good and bad people. There are numerous corrupt officials, but few honest officials. Few people in the officialdom can keep themselves clean, and there will always be some corruption in the officialdom. An honest official is like a lotus flower, "growing out of the mud without being stained, pure and elegant without being coquettish". Therefore, in ancient times, when we visited an honest official, we would bring a "green lotus" to express the respect of the sender for the honest official.

3. Wealth: The lotus looks very green before it blooms, but it is very gorgeous when it blooms. It can be compared with the peony flower which represents wealth. Therefore, the lotus also represents wealth.

4. Sacred: The lotus is the seat of the Bodhisattvas in Buddhism. Buddhism is a place for meditation and does not allow any unnecessary thoughts. The lotus is the sacred flower of Buddhism, so it has a sacred meaning.
