Are carnations edible?

1. Is it edible?

Many kinds of flowers are edible. We can list many of them off the top of our heads, such as "chrysanthemum", "rose", "rapeseed" and so on. However, not all flowers are edible. This is because many kinds of flowers are poisonous. For example, "Mandragora", "Daffodil", "Azalea" and so on. If they are accidentally ingested, they may be harmful to your health. However, as for "Carnation", it is non-toxic and can be eaten with confidence.

2. How to eat

(1) Scented tea: This type of tea is relatively famous and popular among people. The method is also relatively simple, just remove the calyx, stalk and other parts of the flower. Then, put the rest in the oven to dry. Note that you need to turn it over from time to time so that it can be heated more evenly. Once you’re done, transfer it to an airtight jar and place it in the refrigerator. When you need to use it, just take it out and drink it.

(2) Flower wine: First prepare salt water, then put the fresh flowers in and soak for about two hours. This is done to remove the astringency and also to kill bacteria. After that, take it out, dry it and put it into white wine. And add appropriate amount of rock sugar. Seal it again and store it in a cool place. After two or three months, take it out, open it and drink it. You will find that the fragrance and color of the flowers have been fully integrated with the wine.

(3) Flower porridge: Mix fresh, cleaned flower petals with rice, water, etc., and then cook it into porridge. This method is relatively simple and the ingredients are not difficult to obtain.

3. Notes

(1) First of all, of course, check whether the flowers are contaminated by pesticides. Before doing it again, be sure to wash it thoroughly.

(2) Choose fresher flowers for better results.
