Lily cultivation methods and precautions

Lily is a beautiful and fragrant flower with rich and varied colors. Some varieties have two-color or gradient colors. Its strong fragrance gives people a fresh and pleasant feeling. Many people want to grow lilies at home. Let’s talk about the cultivation methods and precautions of lilies.

1. Soil

The choice of soil for planting lilies is not very particular, as long as it is not clay, slightly acidic, loose, breathable and well-drained soil will be fine. When planting lilies, do not apply too much base fertilizer to the soil. Just use some leaf mold or peat soil and some garden soil and coarse sand in a ratio of 1:1:1.

2. Planting method

When planting lilies, you should choose a deeper pot. In order to make the lilies look full and lush when they bloom, you should arrange them according to the size of the pot. If it is a pot with a diameter of 20 cm, it is best to plant three trees. The buds along the edge of the pot should be tilted towards the outer edge of the pot as much as possible, so that the lily buds can be evenly distributed. If it is a large pot, you can increase the number of bulbs gradually. When the bulbs are planted in the soil, they should be covered with about one centimeter of soil. Water them thoroughly for the first time. If the temperature is too high, place them in a cool place and wait for germination. If the temperature is too low, place them in the sun and wait for germination. Before the bulbs germinate, keep the soil moist, but do not allow water to accumulate. Wait until the bulbs germinate and then maintain them normally.

3. Temperature

The bulbs of lilies can be planted when the temperature is around 10 degrees. The suitable temperature for their growth is between 15 and 25 degrees. Temperatures that are too high or below ten degrees are not conducive to the growth of lilies. Lily bulbs are generally planted in early spring around March, and in early autumn around August or September. Those planted in early autumn will bloom around the Spring Festival, and those planted in early spring will bloom in June or July. However, it is difficult for lilies to survive the winter if they are planted in early autumn. They must be kept warm in winter, and the temperature must be maintained above ten degrees to help the lilies survive the winter.

4. Sunlight

Lilies like the sun but are afraid of strong light. If the sunlight is too strong, they need to be properly shaded and cared for with scattered light. In winter, they need full sun care. If the sunlight is too strong, the lily branches will wither and enter a dormant period.

5. Watering

Lilies like moisture and are afraid of waterlogging. Normally, they should be watered thoroughly when the soil is dry. They cannot be kept dry for a long time, as this will cause the leaves to dry and turn yellow. The soil in the pot cannot be kept wet for a long time, as this will cause root rot.

6. Fertilization

Lilies do not like fertilizer very much. Apply fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once every half a month. Applying too much nitrogen fertilizer will cause the branches to grow too long. Applying more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can make the flowers bigger and the leaves more fertile. Fertilizer should be applied thinly and frequently, and the fertilizer should not be too concentrated.
