Windmill jasmine cutting method and time

Nowadays, there are a lot of people who like to grow flowers. Among them, there is a flowering machine that has been particularly popular in recent years. It is the windmill jasmine . This plant is a climbing flower plant. It can attach to walls and other things and extend upward. Therefore, it is very suitable for people who have a courtyard or terrace to plant. Let’s talk about the method and time of windmill jasmine cuttings.

1. Cutting time

Windmill jasmine can be propagated by cuttings. The ambient temperature for cuttings should be between 18-28℃. As long as the ambient temperature is suitable, cuttings can be done in any season, but they should be avoided during the semi-dormant and dormant periods. Generally, the survival rate of branches of plants is relatively high when they are in the middle or early stages of growth.

2. Soil

The prepared soil should be loose, breathable and fertile. You can mix garden soil and leaf mold. Leaf mold is rich in nutrients and can promote faster rooting. Note that after mixing, place it in the sun for disinfection and it can be used only after disinfection.

3. Branch selection

For semi-lignified branches grown in the current year, in order to increase the survival rate, you can choose relatively thick branches or branches with aerial roots. The selected length should be about 5 to 10 centimeters, and there should not be too many leaves, 2 to 5 leaves for photosynthesis.

4. Cutting depth

If you want the cuttings to take root faster, it is recommended to dip the bottom of the cuttings in rooting powder and then insert them directly into the substrate. Pay attention to controlling the depth, about one-third of the cuttings should be inserted into the soil, no need to be too deep.

5. Flowerpot size

For cuttings, it is generally better to choose a small flower pot with a diameter of 5 to 10 centimeters, which is more conducive to the growth of the root system. We can choose to plant a piece of branch cuttings in a pot, or we can plant several pieces of branch cuttings in one pot. The most taboo thing about cuttings is that you can't control your hands and pull up the branches every few days to see if they have grown roots. In fact, there are common methods to determine whether the cuttings are successful. The simplest way is to observe the leaves on the top. Generally, when one or two pairs of new leaves grow, roots have basically grown. Another way is to see if there are roots emerging from under the pot.

6. Maintenance after insertion

Branch cuttings generally require a node position to be buried in the soil. You can use moist soil to pot it. Dry soil needs to be watered thoroughly after cuttings. Generally, water it thoroughly by immersing the pot. Finally, place them in a shallow tray, add a little water to the tray to keep the flower pots slightly moist, place them in a bright and well-ventilated place in your home, and wait for them to take root. After it survives, you can plant it in the ground in the spring of next year or move it to a large flowerpot and place it outdoors for normal maintenance.
