How to make a large chrysanthemum bonsai

Production of large chrysanthemum by division

If you want to use the division method to make a large upright chrysanthemum bonsai, it is usually done in November to December. Choose the newly grown foot buds of the chrysanthemum plant with rhizomes, cut them off, and plant them in a pot for maintenance.

Generally, you should pay attention to maintaining ventilation and apply appropriate fertilizer.

The production of large chrysanthemum by grafting

Large chrysanthemum can also be made by grafting. Choose Artemisia annua as the rootstock. In November, plant the plant in a flowerpot with a diameter of 30 cm and pay attention to fertilizing.

If you want the large chrysanthemum to have many flowers and reach the number of flowers, you need to graft it between January and March. Note that when grafting, each side branch must be grafted with the same variety of chrysanthemum, and pay attention to moisturizing.

But this is not the end of it. After the scion takes root, it needs to be topped off. The purpose of topping is to make it grow more branches.

The first pinching is usually done when the plant is established and has grown 6-7 leaves. Pinching needs to be done continuously thereafter until August, basically once a month.

When pinching, pay attention to pinching the outer branches less often, so that the whole plant appears to be stretched outwards. In addition, a support needs to be set up so that it can be guided to grow in all directions.

After manual adjustment, the large upright chrysanthemum can be formed.
