What to do if Phalaenopsis is frostbitten

What to do if Phalaenopsis is frostbitten

1. Move indoors

Phalaenopsis is suitable for growing in an environment of 15-20℃, and the temperature in winter should not be lower than 5℃, otherwise it will easily lead to death. It will also be frostbitten when the temperature is below 10℃. After frostbite, it should be moved to a warm place indoors as soon as possible, but it should not be placed next to a heater to bake, as this will cause the leaves to lose water.

2. Water spraying to ease

Phalaenopsis orchids that have been frozen need to be sprayed with water to cool down first. The water temperature should be appropriate to avoid secondary frostbite caused by cold water. Tap water must be left to stand for a few days before use to allow the chlorine in the water to dissipate. In addition to spraying water, you can also use pots of Polyfeng, PBO and other anti-freeze materials.

3. Appropriate fertilization

Apply a little thin fertilizer to the Phalaenopsis after it is frozen. You can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate and spray it on the leaves. This will help replenish nutrition and recover the frostbitten areas.

4. Cut off frozen leaves

If the leaves of Phalaenopsis orchid are frozen too severely, they should be cut off to avoid wasting water and nutrients. At the same time, it also prevents it from rotting and getting sick, which would cause harm to the plants.

5.Bagging for insulation

If the room temperature is not high enough, you can put a bag on the Phalaenopsis, which can also effectively keep it warm. You need to poke a few holes in the bag to allow for ventilation.
