What to do if the potted plum blossoms don’t bloom

What to do if the potted plum blossoms don’t bloom

1. Increase lighting

It is a very light-loving plant and needs to be exposed to sufficient light unless it is dormant. Especially between July to November each year, the formation and growth of flower buds require light. Only with sufficient light can the flower buds differentiate and bloom.

2. Supplement nutrients

Insufficient nutrients in the soil can also cause the plant to not bloom, so you need to change the pot and apply fertilizer in time. Potted plants should be fertilized once every 10 days or so until the leaves become thick and the flower buds swell, so that they can bloom.

3. Reduce watering

If you water too much during maintenance, it will affect the growth and differentiation of flower buds. The amount of water should be controlled when the flower buds are differentiating. Observe the leaves when watering, and water only when you find the leaves curling up. This way, the flower buds can grow and differentiate better.

4. Proper pruning

If the pruning is not done correctly, the plant will not bloom. When pruning, you should cut long branches and leave short branches, because there are usually fewer flower buds on long branches and more flower buds on short branches. In addition, the flower branches should be pruned promptly after each flower withers, cutting them off two or three centimeters from the base to promote the germination of short branches and produce more flower buds.
