How to plant Dieffenbachia and what are the planting time and method

Planting time of Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia is sensitive to temperature and should be planted in warm seasons. It is usually planted in March and April in spring when the temperature is around 20 degrees, which is conducive to germination.

How to plant Dieffenbachia

1. Sowing: If you want to use the sowing method, you have to start in March or April. You can sow the seeds in a flowerpot, water them and wait in a cool place. Then they will germinate in 20 to 30 days. This sowing method takes some time from seeds to growth, so most people choose to use the division method.

2. Division: The division of the evergreen should be done in early spring. When you take it out, you will find many small buds on the roots. Divide these small buds together with the evergreen, and then plant these small plants in a flowerpot. After watering, it will take only a dozen days for the roots of the small evergreen to grow.

How to plant the newly bought evergreen

1. Changing the soil: Dieffenbachia has strict requirements on the soil. Fertile, loose, well-drained and humus-rich sandy soil is preferred. The newly bought Dieffenbachia has not yet adapted to the new environment, so changing the soil can easily damage the roots. Wait until it has adapted to the new environment before changing the soil.

2. Temperature: For newly purchased evergreens, the surrounding temperature should be controlled between 20-38 degrees, so that it can adapt to the environment as quickly as possible and promote its growth.

3. Light: The newly bought evergreen should not be exposed to light. It is a semi-shade plant and does not require much light. Moreover, it has just arrived at the new environment and is not yet adapted to it, so it is easy to be sunburned. Therefore, it needs to be maintained in a shaded place and well ventilated. It should be exposed to the sun after it has adapted.

4. Watering: For this kind of newly purchased plant, the amount of watering must be controlled. After watering, generally wait 3-4 days before watering again. After the evergreen adapts to the new environment, resume normal watering.

How to grow evergreen quickly

1. Light: Dieffenbachia likes warmth but is afraid of strong light. It is suitable to be maintained under scattered light. If it is planted outdoors, it is necessary to provide shade.

2. Soil: Potted evergreens can be grown with ordinary garden soil, but loose, well-permeable, slightly acidic sandy loam is preferred.

3. Temperature: Dieffenbachia likes warmth and has weak cold resistance. It needs to be moved indoors for maintenance in winter. The temperature should be kept at 6℃-18℃ and should not be lower than 6℃ (a few varieties cannot be lower than 10℃). When the temperature drops below 10℃, necessary insulation measures need to be taken, otherwise it will easily cause leaf fall and stem top rot.

4. Water: The soil in the pot needs to be kept moist in summer, but do not water too much. Just keep the soil moist to avoid water accumulation.

5. Fertilization: Aglaonema has strong tolerance to fertilizer, so it is necessary to apply thin fertilizers frequently. During the growing period, fertilize once a month, and every 10 days in summer. Stop fertilizing in winter.

Matters Needing Attention in the Cultivation of Dieffenbachia Potted Plants

Do not water the evergreen too much, as waterlogging can easily lead to rot of the plant's roots, affecting its growth. If the leaves of the evergreen turn yellow or wither in winter, it is because there is too little water and the roots absorb less water.
