How to propagate and top the bulbous begonia

How to propagate and top the bulbous begonia

1. How to breed

1. Cutting method: Cutting method can be used for propagation in spring, between May and June. Cut the top buds or side branches without diseases and insect pests, control the length to 5-8 cm, remove the leaves at the base, and leave one or two leaves at the top. After treatment, place it in a cool place to dry the wound before cutting. After planting, water it thoroughly in time and place it in a ventilated and cool place. It will take about a month to take root.

2. Sowing method: Sowing can be done in the greenhouse in January and February every year. Its seeds are very small, so it is recommended to mix them with fine soil before sowing. Place directly on the soil surface without covering with soil. Finally, keep the soil in the pot moist, spray water frequently, and place it in a cool place. It will usually germinate in half a month.

3. Tuber method: It is usually carried out before germination. Use a sterilized blade to cut the tuber from the top. Note that each tuber should have one or two buds, and the wound should be coated with wood ash. It can be planted when the wound is dry in the shade. Be careful not to bury it too deep in the soil to avoid rot.

2. How to top

When the seedlings grow to 15 cm high, they can be topped. Just cut off the branches at the top of the plant. This will encourage more side branches to sprout and more flowers will bloom later. In addition, if diseased branches and yellow leaves are found during maintenance, they should be cut off in time to avoid infection of other branches.
