What to do if the roots of Kalanchoe are rotten

What to do if the roots of Kalanchoe are rotten

1. Remove rotten roots

To remove the Kalanchoe from the potting soil, clean the soil on the roots, and then cut off the rotten roots with scissors. The scissors must be disinfected in advance. Any roots that turn brown should be cut off, making sure to cut to a point where there is no rot on the stem. Otherwise, it is easy to worsen the rot due to unclean handling.

2. Disinfection of roots

After cutting out the rotten part, disinfect the cut on the root and apply carbendazim to the root to prevent re-infection, and then place it in a ventilated place.

3. Pruning

If the Kalanchoe grows flower buds, they must be cut off in time. If they are kept, they will consume more nutrients and will be unfavorable for rooting again. However, its leaves must be kept, which can promote the roots of the branches to grow healthier and faster. Proper pruning is very beneficial for its regrowth.

4. Recultivation

Kalanchoe can also be grown in water. It will easily grow new roots. In about 15 days, its roots will grow out. Then you can place it in the potting soil and maintain it normally. In daily maintenance, you should pay attention to not watering too much and applying fertilizer in moderation. Do not apply unrotted fertilizer or excessive fertilizer to avoid root rot due to fertilizer damage.
