What to do if peony root rots

What to do if peony root rots

1. The soil is too wet

In most cases, root rot is caused by the soil being too wet. Because once the flower soil is too wet, there is a high probability that water will accumulate in the soil, and its roots will easily be soaked in water and rot. In addition, overly wet flower soil is very suitable for the reproduction and spread of some pathogens, and it is likely to breed root rot and stem base rot, which will also cause its roots to rot.

Solution: First, we need to find a way to drain the excess water in the soil. If it is a potted plant, we can put it in a ventilated and cool place to wait for the water to evaporate. If it is planted in the ground, we can loosen the soil to allow more air to enter the soil.

However, if the situation is more serious and it has become sick, then in addition to drying the soil, we also need to use thiram or other agents to treat it. But it is much simpler if it is a potted plant. We can take it out and disinfect it directly, and then plant it in new flower soil.

2. Pests

If you don't take good care of it, it is likely to be infested with insects. In addition to some pests on the leaves, there are also some underground insects that will bite the rhizomes underground, causing root rot.

Solution: If this is the case, we need to water the roots. Although it is time-consuming and laborious, it is also quite effective. In addition, we can also use some drugs to assist in dealing with this problem, such as thiamethoxam and pyrethroids, which are not only very effective but also leave no residue.
