How to grow figs to produce more fruits?

Fig, also known as eyesight-enhancing fruit and honey fruit, is a fruit that can be used as both medicine and food. It is cultivated all over the country, with the largest number in Xinjiang. So how do you grow figs to get more fruits? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Site selection and land preparation

For patch cultivation, the land can be prepared before the winter of the previous year, and the soil can be broken up and leveled before planting in the spring, and then holes can be dug according to a certain plant spacing. In order to facilitate cold protection and utilize seedlings for renewal, shrub -like pruning is often used, and the spacing between rows and plants is generally 2 meters x 3 meters.

2. Planting

Planting can be done after the leaves fall in autumn and before budding in the following spring. However, because its root growth requires a higher temperature of 9 to 10 degrees Celsius, the spring setting is better than the autumn setting. Generally, it is most suitable to plant in spring between February and March. When transplanting, dig holes with a length and width of 33 cm and a depth of 25-30 cm according to a certain plant spacing. First, apply an appropriate amount of compost or manure at the bottom of the hole, mix it with the soil, plant the seedlings firmly, fill and compact the soil, and water it thoroughly to ensure that the roots are established.

3. Intertillage and weeding

Young orchards should be cultivated and weeded once in spring, summer and winter, and cultivated in winter should be combined with soil cultivation to prevent frost. Mature orchards are tilled during dormancy and covered with grass in summer to suppress weed growth and prevent drought. If weeds grow, they should be cut off and the grass should be used to cover the roots. Appropriate crops can be selected for intercropping in winter. In areas with cold winter climates, attention should be paid to anti-freeze.

4. Watering

Water frequently during the seedling stage to keep the soil moist, which is conducive to root growth. After planting, if there is a drought season, pay attention to watering to resist drought and protect the seedlings. During the rainy season, ditches and drainage should be cleared in time.

5. Topdressing

Combine intertillage and weeding with topdressing. After the first intertillage, apply 1,000 kg of dilute human and animal manure per mu to promote the germination and growth of new shoots; after the second intertillage, apply 1,500 kg of human and animal manure or 10 kg of urea per mu; after the third intertillage, apply 1,500 kg of decomposed compost per mu, apply it by digging trenches between the rows, and cover with soil and fertilizer after application to promote the healthy growth of seedlings. After planting, dig holes or trenches next to the plants in autumn and winter every year and apply appropriate amounts of manure, compost and compound fertilizer fermented with superphosphate. Small trees can use less fertilizer, while large trees need more fertilizer. After fertilizing, you can cover the soil to prevent soil erosion.

6. Pruning

In order to control the tree shape and increase the fruiting rate, pruning can be carried out during the plant's dormant period in winter. In order to create a natural open-heart-shaped crown, the young tree has three main branches, which should be shortened to 60 cm in length, leaving a cut bud outside the tip to allow it to continue to extend in the same direction. This extension branch should be appropriately shortened in winter, and the remaining length should be longer than the secondary main branch left under it, so that it is easier to maintain the subordinate relationship. New branches should not grow on the main branches. It is best to grow from the sides of the main branches, or from below the main branches if necessary.
