Grafting is a very good agronomic technique and gardening skill. This technical operation is very common in both fruit tree planting and flower planting. Below I will introduce to you the method of grafting Christmas cactus onto jade plant.

Method of grafting Christmas cactus on jade tree

1. Choose the rootstock

Choose a healthy, vigorously growing jade plant as the rootstock and cut a branch about 10-15 cm long.

2. Handling the rootstock

Flatten the cut jade branches to expose the wood, then cut a T-shaped incision in the wood with a depth of about 1-2 cm.

3. Choose scion

Choose healthy Christmas cactus branches, cut a branch about 5-7 cm in length, and retain 2-3 leaves.

4. Handling the scion

Flatten the cut Christmas cactus branches to expose the xylem, then cut a V-shaped incision in the xylem that matches the incision of the rootstock, with a depth of about 1-2 cm.

5. Grafting

Insert the Christmas cactus scion into the T-shaped cut of the rootstock so that the two fit tightly together, and then use plastic film or grafting tape to secure the scion and rootstock together.

6. Post-management

The grafted jade plant and Christmas cactus need to be placed in a ventilated, humid, semi-shaded environment, avoiding direct sunlight. Keep the soil moist, but not too wet, to avoid rot of the scion and rootstock. If the scion does not wither within 2-3 weeks after grafting, it means the grafting is successful.
