How to take care of newly bought carnations

How to take care of newly bought carnations

1. How to deal with newly bought carnations

When you first buy carnations, you need to check whether its roots are rotten or whether there are dead flowers and leaves. If so, you should cut them off in time. Afterwards, use disinfectant to disinfect all the cut ends, and then place it in a well-ventilated place to dry to prevent it from being infected by bacteria. After it is dry, you can put it in the pot.

2. How to grow newly bought carnations

1. Light: It likes light. Under normal circumstances, it needs to be placed in a sunny position with direct light for maintenance and given sufficient light. However, when it is just bought, it needs a period of adaptation to the new environment. It cannot be placed directly in direct sunlight. You can first place it in a place with sufficient scattered light and good ventilation for maintenance. After it resumes growing, slowly give it sufficient light and gradually extend the lighting time to at least 6 hours. Since it is in a semi-dormant state in summer, it cannot be exposed to the scorching sun.

2. Temperature: It likes warmth and cannot tolerate high temperatures. When you just buy it, you can keep it in an environment with a temperature of about 20℃. Do not leave it in a low temperature environment for a long time, otherwise it will easily get frostbite, and it will be more difficult to recover after freezing. In summer, when the temperature is higher than 30℃, it is easy to cause wilt symptoms, and appropriate spraying is needed to cool down.

3. Watering: It is afraid of waterlogging. When it is just bought, it does not grow fast, so it does not need a lot of water support. You can water it every 3-5 days to keep its soil moist and free of water. Under normal circumstances, except for timely watering during the peak growth and flowering seasons, you can water less at other times to keep the soil moist. You can spray around it frequently to increase the air humidity, which will be more conducive to its growth.

4. Fertilization: It needs sufficient nutrients during normal growth, but you need to stop fertilizing when you just buy it. Because it is still in the potting stage, fertilizing it can easily cause root burn. Wait for a while and let it adapt to the new environment before fertilizing it. Under normal circumstances, before planting, the basin should be applied with sufficient base fertilizer containing potassium, calcium, nitrogen and phosphorus, and liquid fertilizer should be applied continuously during the growing period. Generally, decomposed thin fertilizer water should be applied every 10 days or so. Fertilization is prohibited during the high temperature period in summer, otherwise the plants will wither or even die.
