How to grow peanuts?

Peanuts have high economic value and a wide range of uses. They can be eaten, used as oil, and exported to earn foreign exchange, so they are favored by the majority of growers. But for friends who are new to the industry, it is very important to understand the peanut planting techniques. So how do you plant peanuts specifically? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil selection

Peanuts like to grow in loose, fertile, well-drained soil, and the most suitable pH value is between 5.5-6.5. Before planting, the soil can be deeply turned over to improve soil structure and increase soil permeability and water retention.

2. Seed treatment

The seeds should be shelled 10-15 days before sowing. They can be dried in the shell for 2-3 days before shelling. Moldy, damaged, and germinated seeds should be removed and stored and sown in different grades according to seed size. In addition, it is best to choose a suitable agent for seed mixing. The seeds should be mixed evenly and sown as soon as they are mixed. They can be sown after the seed coat is dry. Seed mixing can effectively prevent and control soil-borne diseases such as root rot, stem rot, crown rot and underground pests such as white grubs .

3. Key points for sowing

First of all, sowing should be done at the right time. Generally, sowing can be done when the ground temperature at 10 cm is stably above 12℃. There are two sowing methods: mechanical sowing and manual sowing. Mechanical sowing can be used if conditions permit to improve efficiency. If manual sowing is adopted, double-seed hole sowing method can be adopted, and furrows can be dug according to soil conditions with a depth of about 5cm, and then sowing and fertilizing can be carried out. Pay attention to the distance between seeds and fertilizers , and keep them at a certain distance to avoid burning the seedlings.

4. Field management

In the early stage (seedling stage), management should be strengthened, roots should be firmly established, pests and diseases should be prevented and controlled, and early emergence of seedlings should be promoted; in the middle stage (flower needle-fruiting stage), the main focus is to control the growth of branches and leaves above the ground and promote the development of fruit needles and young fruits below; in the late stage (maturity stage), the pods are enlarged and the kernels are filled, which mainly reflects the two words "post-protection", focusing on drought resistance, waterlogging drainage, prevention of fruit rot, insect control, fruit protection and high yield, disease prevention, leaf protection and fruit filling.

5. Harvest and storage

In production, it is generally harvested when the plants turn from green to yellow, the main stem retains 3-4 green leaves, and most of the pods are full and mature. The specific harvest period should be flexibly controlled according to weather conditions. After harvesting, the pods should be dried in the sun or oven as soon as possible to reduce the moisture content to below 10%. Pay attention to controlling storage conditions, preventing and controlling damage from storage pests, and preventing aflatoxin contamination.

In general, planting peanuts requires attention to many aspects, including soil selection, seed treatment, sowing points, field management, and harvesting and storage. Only by doing these things well can we obtain high-yield and high-quality peanuts.
