What to do if the leaves of spring fern turn yellow

What to do if the leaves of spring fern turn yellow

Environmental reasons

As for the growth habits of spring fern, because spring fern likes moisture, is cold-resistant and afraid of strong light, external reasons include unsuitable temperature, low humidity, unsuitable light, excessive fertilization, too frequent watering, diseases and insect pests, etc. In addition, there are also reasons related to the potting soil.

Pot soil causes and symptoms

The potting soil lacks nitrogen: the leaves are small and light yellow. The lower part of the leaves turns yellow first and then all turn from green to yellow.

The potting soil lacks phosphorus: the leaves are curled, the color is dark green, and the lower veins are yellowing.

Potassium deficiency in the potting soil: The edges of the lower leaves turn brown and are prone to lodging.

Magnesium deficiency in potting soil: whitening of leaf edges and middle

Iron deficiency in potting soil: burnt brown spots and dryness

Main categories and simple processing methods

Yellowing of water: It is mainly caused by improper water and fertilizer. Too much watering leads to poor soil permeability, which in turn causes root rot of the spring fern plant. In this case, it is necessary to reduce the amount of watering, loosen the soil and enhance soil permeability.

Yellowing due to fertilizer: It is mainly caused by excessive application of fertilizer. The old leaves turn yellow and fall off while the new leaves are thick and not stretched. In this case, you can sprinkle a layer of cabbage or radish seeds on the plants, and then pull them out after they sprout to consume excess nutrients.

Drought yellowing: Due to long-term lack of watering or dehydration of the plant, the lower leaves become dry, yellow, fall off, and age. In this case, you can increase the amount of watering and spray more water to meet the water needs of the plants and keep the environment moist, or spray appropriate agents to replenish the necessary water for the plants.

Alkali yellowing: Since spring fern likes acidic soil and the water quality and soil in the north are alkaline, the leaves fade, turn yellow and fall off. In this case, fermented rice water or rain water should be used for watering.
