How to propagate cactus and what to pay attention to

How to reproduce cactus

The common methods of propagation of cactus are cuttings, division, sowing and grafting. Its seeds can also be propagated. Its natural reproduction method is seed propagation. Generally speaking, cactus grafting is the fastest.

Cactus breeding time

Generally speaking, it is more appropriate to reproduce cacti in April and May, because the plants grow vigorously in spring and the climate at this time is more suitable, so the survival rate after reproduction is high.

How to propagate cactus

Propagation of cactus by cuttings

Cut the healthy cactus stem nodes. The cutting medium requires good air permeability. After cutting the cuttings, apply some carbendazim for disinfection, then put them in a cool and ventilated place. After the cut edges are dry, insert them into the potting soil. After watering, place them in a place with scattered light.

Cactus seed propagation

Sow the cactus seeds evenly on the potting soil, water them appropriately, then place them in a dark place and maintain the temperature at around 20℃. When the seeds develop into seedlings, they can be transplanted for the first time.

Hydroponic cactus propagation

The formed cactus should be grown in water using the root washing method. Its fleshy stem is heavy, so it should be grown in thick and stable glass containers with water. The container also needs to be cleaned frequently to prevent the breeding of bacteria. Change the water every 7 days in summer to keep the water clean.

Cactus breeding precautions

After cutting the cactus cuttings, it should be noted that they cannot be planted immediately. They need to be dried in the sun for a few days and then planted after the nodes heal. Moreover, the cuttings should not be planted too deep. It is appropriate for the base of the cuttings to slightly enter the substrate.
