The reasons and solutions for the yellowing of yew leaves

The reasons and solutions for the yellowing of yew leaves

Sudden environmental changes

Sudden changes in the growth environment will cause the yew to be unable to adapt all at once, resulting in poor growth of the plant and yellowing of leaves.

Workaround

In the process of transplanting yew, you need to create an environment similar to the original environment and then slowly adjust it. When the growth environment changes suddenly, the same thing should be done, and adjustments should be made slowly.

Too much or too little watering

During the cultivation process, excessive watering will cause the young leaves of the yew to become dull and the tops of the new shoots to wilt. Long-term water shortage will cause the leaves to dry out, lack moisture, and turn yellow.

Workaround

When the situation is not very serious, you should control the amount of watering, use a shovel to gently loosen the soil on the surface of the pot to allow the soil to breathe, and move it to a place with dew every night. When the situation is serious, replace the soil directly. When watering, the principle should be to not water unless the soil is dry, and to water thoroughly when watering. It should be noted that the surface of the potting soil may be dry but the soil in the middle may not be lacking in water. You can use some anti-root rot agents when watering.

Sun exposure

In the hot summer weather, exposing the yew tree to direct sunlight will cause the plant's transpiration to be too strong, and the root system will not be able to keep up with the water replenishment speed, causing the plant's leaves to lack water and wilt and turn yellow.

Workaround

Place the yew tree indoors, spray water on the leaves, and it will recover after a while.

Air Drying

It is not suitable to place yew trees near the air outlet of air conditioners, as this will increase the evaporation of water from the leaves of yew trees, causing the branches and leaves of yew trees to dehydrate quickly, and the leaves to curl and dry, and wilt and droop.

Workaround

If the air conditioner is turned on indoors, spray water on the leaves of the yew to keep the leaves moist, and place a basin of water indoors.

Lack of sunlight

Insufficient light. Photosynthesis is weak, and the photosynthetic products cannot be recycled to supply the root system. The lack of nutrients in the root system causes the leaves to turn yellow and fall off.

Workaround

Place it on the balcony or outdoors in the morning and evening, and do it once every few days.

Temperature is too high or too low

If the temperature of the environment in which the yew tree is located is too high, the leaves will lack water and appear scorched. Too low temperature will affect the nutrient transport inside the plant, leading to nutrient deficiency and causing the leaves to turn yellow.

Workaround

When the temperature is too high, spray water mist on the leaves of yew to keep them moist. When the outdoor weather changes greatly, pay attention to keeping the yew plant warm.

Too much or too little fertilization

Do not spray fertilizer on the new leaves of newly purchased yew, as this will cause the young leaves or buds of the yew to shrink and curl. Long-term lack of fertilizer will cause the leaves of the yew tree to turn yellow and its growth to be slow.

Workaround

When too much fertilizer is applied, dilute the fertilizer water appropriately or replace the potting soil. When there is a long-term lack of fertilizer, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be applied.

Pests and diseases

Pests and diseases can cause small brown spots to appear on the lower needles and twigs of seedlings, which gradually expand into dark brown and eventually cause the leaves to die.

Workaround

When leaf blight and red blight occur, treatment should be carried out using Bordeaux mixture or thiophanate-methyl.
