What to do if the leaves of copper coin grass turn yellow

What to do if the leaves of copper coin grass turn yellow

symptom

Yellowing of the periphery

The first situation is that the leaves at the bottom or outside of the pennywort wither and turn yellow. Usually, the leaves close to the soil or water surface appear yellowish-brown, while the leaves outside appear yellow and dull. This situation is mostly caused by an undesirable maintenance environment or the normal metabolism of the plant. This yellowing phenomenon has little impact on the growth of pennywort!

All leaves turn yellow

The second situation is that all the leaves of the pennywort turn yellow. In this case, the yellowing of leaves is a gradual process and there is no regular pattern to follow. This is a kind of pathological yellowing. There are many reasons. If it is not treated in time, the whole pot will gradually wilt and rot.

Yellowing Causes

Water half way

Half-watering means that there is no water seeping out from the bottom of the pot during watering. The water only nourishes the stems but does not penetrate into the roots. If the water is not thorough for a long time, the roots will not have enough water and yellowing will occur. In addition, this phenomenon will also occur if the water level in the container of hydroponic pennywort is low.

Poor ventilation, humid environment

The soil of the copper coin grass is in a damp or too dry state for a long time, and it is not watered immediately when it is dry, and the environment is too humid (although the copper coin grass is an aquatic plant, it will not grow well if the soil is too humid when cultivated.)

Another reason is that the environment is stuffy. Succulents can be grown in a stuffy environment, but green leafy plants cannot. Just like people will become dehydrated and wilted if they stay in a sauna for too long. In a stuffy environment, the leaves will droop and turn yellow.

Eager to leave the room

The pennywort is not cold-resistant and needs to be moved indoors before winter. If the roots are frozen, they will turn yellow.

After winter, the weather becomes warmer, but cold waves occur frequently. If you are eager to go out and cannot adapt to the environment for a while, the leaves will turn yellow.

Not enough nutrients

There are two sources of nutrients for pennywort: one is photosynthesis of the leaves, and the other is fertilization. When the leaves are covered with dust and not cleaned for a long time, it will hinder photosynthesis and cause nutrient deficiency; the healthy growth of copper coin grass requires balanced nutrients. When phosphorus fertilizer is lacking, the leaves will turn yellow.

Workaround

Half water and half soil farming

Both full soil or full water farming will have problems such as improper nutrients and watering. The best method is half soil and half water. The soil can provide sufficient nutrients for the roots (there is no particular requirement for the choice of soil, ordinary soil will do), and hydroponics can meet the water needs, killing two birds with one stone. However, because the pennywort reproduces quickly, it will soon fill the pot, so remember to clean it up in time.

Plenty of sunlight

For this kind of green leafy plant, the best solution when the leaves turn yellow is to cut off the yellow leaves and place it in the sun for more sun while ensuring that it has sufficient water and nutrients. As long as it is not overexposed to the sun, the pennywort will grow well.

Planting by division

There is an ultimate way to solve the yellowing of the leaves of the pennywort, which is to divide the plants. Because pennywort is easy to grow, and the reasons for the yellowing of pennywort in each pot are different, it is impossible to cover all aspects, so the safest method is to divide the pots so that each leaf has sufficient growth space.

Brand new water, soil, pots, and a brand new pennywort. Soon you can grow a brand new pot of pennywort. If one pot dies, there is another one as a backup.
