Yellowing Causes

The reason why the leaves of Christmas cactus turn yellow is simply that the environment it is in is too different from the ideal environment, such as insufficient nutrients, too low humidity, cold current invasion, soil compaction, pests and diseases, and the soil in the pot is too dry. You can eliminate these reasons one by one.

There are two important pathogenic factors that deserve everyone's attention. After Christmas cactus flowers bloom, they will go through a period of dormancy, during which the plant stops growing. Excessive watering at this time will cause the soil in the pot to become moist and the leaves to turn yellow.

The light is strong in spring and summer, and the leaves will turn yellow if they are not shaded when grown outdoors.

Yellowing treatment method

Reasonable fertilization

Christmas cactus does not require much fertilizer. Fertilizer needs to be added in time when entering the bud formation period to promote normal differentiation of flower buds. When there is a lack of fertilizer, just buy potassium dihydrogen phosphate and add it to water for watering. Remember that the concentration should be low.

Control water volume

Watering should be done in moderation, not too frequently, and water only when the surface of the soil in the pot is dry. In winter, water according to the potting soil, only when it is dry, not wet.

Moderate humidity

When caring for Christmas cactus indoors, do not place the plant too close to the radiator or air conditioner outlet, otherwise the moisture on the leaves will evaporate quickly, the leaves will become dehydrated, and gradually the whole plant will wilt and turn yellow.

Pest Control

The main pests of Christmas cactus are red spider mites and scale insects. Once discovered, remove the leaves in time and spray them with medicine.

Hibernation

Christmas cactus has two growing periods and two semi-dormant periods in a year. Water it according to its growth patterns and place it in different positions at different times. Pay attention to controlling water and stopping fertilization during the dormant period.
