How to plant Dendrobium candidum and how to survive the winter

1. How to plant Dendrobium officinale

1. Bark planting: When planting Dendrobium officinale, we can find a plastic pot or a clay pot and put a layer of stones at the bottom of the pot as a drainage layer. Place a large piece of pine bark on top, hold the Dendrobium with one hand, and use the other hand to spread out the roots of the Dendrobium and place them flat on the pine bark. Then use a small piece of pine bark to press down the roots. Note that the roots of the Dendrobium cannot be buried too deep, so as not to affect the growth of the plant's roots.

2. Planting with sphagnum moss: The air humidity in the south is high, so it is suitable to plant Dendrobium officinale with tree bark. In the north, it is best to use sphagnum moss for planting to avoid the Dendrobium dying of drought due to untimely watering. When planting with sphagnum moss, since sphagnum moss has better water absorption and water retention, we should use a smaller flowerpot for planting, and when planting, we should compact the sphagnum moss repeatedly to prevent water accumulation and root rot in the future.

2. How does Dendrobium officinale survive the winter?

1. Light and temperature: When growing Dendrobium officinale in winter, ensure that the maintenance temperature is not lower than 5°C. Expose the plant to more sunlight to promote photosynthesis and accumulate nutrients crazily. In other seasons, create a semi-shaded environment for Dendrobium officinale, such as placing it under other large potted plants to avoid exposure to the scorching sun in summer, and pay more attention to ventilation.

2. Water and fertilizer: It is very simple to water Dendrobium officinale. Generally, you can insert your hand into the substrate and when it feels dry, that is, when the moisture content of the substrate is 30% to 40%, you can water it. The water used for watering should be dried in advance each time. No fertilizer is applied in winter. During the growing season, some fermented sheep manure can be buried in the pot as fertilizer.
