What tree stumps are used for osmanthus grafting (grafting method diagram)

1. What kind of tree stump should be used?

Its grafting can be carried out by Ligustrum lucidum, Ligustrum lucidum, Ligustrum small-leaved and Fraxinus chinensis. The survival rate of these tree stumps as rootstocks is relatively high, especially Ligustrum small-leaved. If planted in the northern region, it is recommended to choose tassel trees, which will be more alkali-resistant and cold-resistant after survival. In addition, it can also be done using its seedlings, which have a very high affinity.

2. Grafting method

1. Processing the scion: When grafting, choose strong branches that have already become woody as cuttings. After selection, cut off the leaves on the branches, leaving only one or two leaves, and make sure that there are one or two new buds. Cut the bottom into a wedge shape for later use.

2. Grafting rootstock: Make an incision at the top of the selected rootstock, with the length similar to the shape of the scion wedge. After processing, insert the scion, paying attention to align the cambium as much as possible. Do not insert the cut surface completely, leave a little bit exposed, and finally wrap it tightly with plastic film.

3. Post-management: After grafting, cover the entire grafted part with a plastic bag to keep warm and moist. Just make a few holes at the top for ventilation. Under normal circumstances, the plant can survive and the plastic bag can be removed in time. In the later stage, you should observe frequently and remove side buds growing on the rootstock in time, otherwise they will compete for nutrients.
